Partials and Dentures:

If you have lost all or some of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay, endodontic disease or injury, partials and dentures can replace your missing teeth and restore your smile.

Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health.  Without support from partials or dentures, speech may be affected and facial muscles will sag, making a person appear older.  With replacement of missing teeth through partials or dentures you will be able to eat and speak normally - and enjoy activities many take for granted.

There are various types of partials and dentures.

  • Implant supported partials and dentures:  This method requires the placement of a few surgical implants.  This procedure will give the wearer of the partial or denture confidence in stability for years to come.

  • Partial Bridge: The Partial Bridge is a removable appliance with a number of fixed teeth on it.  The partial may require metal clasps to help keep it in place. These tend to not be as stable as a fixed bridge or implant bridges.
  • Complete and immediate dentures: These methods for replacing all your teeth on the upper or lower jaw.  The complete conventional full denture is made and placed after the remaining teeth are removed and the tissue has had a chance to heal, which takes several months.  Therefore, an immediate denture is inserted as soon as the remaining teeth are removed.  Once the healing process is complete, the permanent denture is fitted for maximum comfort and increased stability.

Annual maintenance to check the fit of your new dental appliance, as well as the health of tissue and gums, is critical to the long term success of your partials or dentures.

The method that is right for you can be determined by you and the dentists at West Cobb Dental Designs.  Each patient presents circumstances that dictate the type of denture method best used.  Please call West Cobb Dental Designs for a consultation.
