Composite or Tooth-Colored Fillings

Recent advances in modern dental materials and techniques are giving us new ways to rejuvenate and create natural-looking smiles.  In our experience, patients who have replaced broken decayed or discolored teeth with white fillings enjoy an enhanced confidence to smile.

Composite fillings create a tooth colored filling through a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium. They are durable, fracture resistant and restore decayed or broken teeth nearly invisibly.

Often composites require less tooth structure be removed when preparing the tooth and may result in a smaller filling than traditional Amalgam fillings.  Many adults are opting to replace their existing amalgam fillings with composite fillings due to concerns over the mercury contained in amalgam fillings.  While there have been no conclusive studies regarding dangers related to the mercury in amalgam fillings, concerns exist regarding the levels of mercury contained in them.

Advantages of the Composite Filling:

  • A more youthful and natural appearance
  • Can be matched to your natural tooth color
  • Single visit procedure
  • Composite resins make the tooth more resistant to fracture by bonding the filling to the tooth
  • Minimal to no sensitivity following procedure
  • Preserves the existing tooth structure for years to come
  • Contains no mercury
Composite Bonding - superior in cosmetic applications
  • Replace metal or amalgam fillings
  • Repair chipped or broken teeth
  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Reshape teeth
