Upon graduation from dental school, Dr Bumgarner entered the US Air Force Dental Corps. While stationed in North Carolina, Dr. Bumgarner received additional training in sedation and anesthesia at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After completing his military training, Dr. Bumgarner moved to Georgia to start his private practice. He was one of the first General Practice dentists in Georgia to be licensed in conscious sedation by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
At the beginning of Operation Desert Shield, Dr. Bumgarner's reserve unit was activated and he spent another year on active duty. His unit, the 3299 Dental Services Detainment received a Presidential Citation for outstanding services during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. On release from active duty Dr. Bumgarner returned to Georgia to continue raising a family. Of his three children, one has graduated from Georgia Tech, one from Emory and the youngest is attending the University of Georgia.
Dr. Bumgarner lives in Cartersville, and many weekends finds Dr. Bumgarner working for Hamilton Regional Medical Center as a critical care paramedic. He attends many courses each year to learn the latest dental techniques, sedation and anesthesia and emergency medical service. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the International Society for Airway Management and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians/Paramedics and The American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Bumgarner travels each year with a medical team from Marietta to provide medical and dental treatment to remote villages in the jungles of Nicaragua and Honduras.
Dr. Bumgarner follows the philosophy of providing comprehensive modern dental treatment in a gentle, caring environment. His goal is total dental health for all of his patients through regular examinations and treatment updates. He always appreciates the referrals of family and friends.
